An Open Letter To The Masses Of My People
I come to you with tears in my eyes, terror ringing through my ears and a teeming time bomb ticking closer to it’s final tock, everyday. I ain’t really responded to many texts today because my heart has been torn. Torn between tweeting my thoughts about the war going on outside my home or finding an escape from the war going on inside my head. We are living in a hell on Earth and I’m looking for a place to heal as I prepare to fight the longer fight once the looting is over. I didn’t pull up to the protest today, for two reasons. The first being because of the two viruses that are crucifying our people; I understand that my participation, while well-intended, has the possibility of being harmful to those I love the most. Additionally, while the mask can attempt to protect from COVID19, it cannot protect from the other virus, being Racism in 2020.
Dr. King explained the meaning of a riot: it is “the language of the unheard.” HOWEVER, most ain’t even listen to the speech that contextualizes the quote. In the same speech that King explains a riot is the language of those who have not been heard, he also explains that he believes riots are “self-defeating and socially destructive”. He explains that the summer of 1966, and many more summers to follow, will continue to be one filled with rioting and outrage until “white america, cities and the federal government” begin to hear the voices of the unheard. It’s been 54 years since he said that and the Caucusoids have yet to acknowledge the cries that ring from our lungs louder than the police sirens that patrol our neighborhoods like lions waiting for their prey. And this is the second reason that I refused to riot and the reason I passed on the opportunity to protest downtown, today. I refuse to vocalize my concerns to a group of people who piss on my people’s spirit and keep their knees on my people’s necks. The White Man don’t give a DAMN about the HELL He’s condemned us to in this country & He’s made that clear. He’s even got a sidekick now called Karen and they are a catastrophically caucacious duo of white supremacy.
Allat being said, I salute the black folks that looted, respect the folks that rioted and prayed for those that protested downtown, today. Before I police a black person’s decision on how they might heal in this hell-on-earth, I will problematize the system of supremacy that caked for the demonstrative decisions in the first place. But I must say that my contributions to this moment in history lies in the following fact: for every dollar of damage that was done to downtown Indianapolis, and for every minute that was spent vocalizing concerns to them white folks, seven times seven times as much of our time, talent and treasure must be dedicated to the support and investment into black business here in Indianapolis. THAT’S THE NEXT STEP: INVEST AWAY FROM WHITE AND BACK INTO BLACK ‼️ integration was the fourth degree burn and our dollar being spent in their economy has been the gasoline to the fire. Whether you want to fight fire with fire or stop the fire with water, creating a system of energy, an ecosystem of currency, is crucial to success. The same energy for the protesting x looting x rioting must be applied to the second step in the #processtowards progress of our people by moving our money and political power away from white and back into black.
Our energy cannot be expended existing in their systems any longer. We are who we need in moments like these; this is why “We Must Invest In Our Own” because if we don’t, nobody will. The only lives that our lives need to matter to is WE. We can’t let this energy die; let’s bring this energy into step two. As we invest AWAY FROM WHITE & BACK INTO BLACK. The souls of the soldiers that this supremacy-filled system has shot are still screeching and we must bring justice for their sake.
