Another Kind Of Culture Vulture

If “The Culture” cancels the people that it has previously credited with contributing to its progress, then what happens to the progression of “The Culture”?

The relationship between the artists who created “The Culture” and the audience that consumes “The Culture” becomes more convoluted with every post notification from @TheShadeRoom and @BallerAlert, the primary news sources of Millennials & Gen-Z, and their coverage of the growing power in CANCEL CULTURE made me realize this twisted truth.

There’s constant conversation about the duty of public figures with seven-figure salaries to use their platforms responsibly, but we rarely do we “keep that same energy” (s/o to Teyana Taylor) for the no-names on social media who can hide behind their profiles of famelessness while still having the power to turn the real-life learning experiences of our top-tier culture contributors into a flurry of fatal flaws that condemn those contributors to a life-sentence in pop-culture prison.

140 characters can impact a person’s income by $140. Or $1.40k. Or $140k. Or $1.40M. Or $14.0M. Or $140M. And the character or follow count of the person that creates those characters is practically irrelevant; they could even have less than 140 people who see their 140 characters as fit for following! But let the algorithm [of white supremacy] serve them well on a sunny Saturday afternoon; their viral thoughts could go viral and very well devalue the capital of a culture contributor with an unforgiving veracity.

There are Uncle Tom’s for CANCEL CULTURE in the Twitter comments and when “The Culture” refuses to hold them accountable for their cultural COONery, their tweets create the capital that funds mass[-media] incarceration.

When the people who “control” “The Culture” are not held to the same standard as the people who CREATE “The Culture”, we are experiencing a cultural calamity of the most callous kind.

We must not become so concerned about the whitewashing of our culture by white people that we forget that all skinfolk ain’t kinfolk to “The Culture”. The COONs of CANCEL CULTURE are a different kind of culture vulture.

If #WeMustInvestInOurOwn then #WeMustBeCarefulWhenWeCancelOurOwn.

Half the folks who created the course on “How To Cancel” don’t know the real story. They don’t understand their personal story, they undermine our people’s story, and undermine the power in storytelling because they likely don’t read.

Folks who won’t read between the lines & beyond the lies of cultural illiteracy shouldn’t have the power to cancel our own storytellers, because without storytellers, how will our stories be told?
